In college, after changing majors several times, I realized that I could combine the two and become a social studies teacher. I knew that middle school was the age range I wanted to work with, because I remember distinctly how much my teachers at that age impacted my growth. My first internship was in a middle school geography class, and I was hooked. I am able to stay involved in politics through my work with PLAC, advancing education policy for all public school students.”
Collin’s favorite topics to cover are the founding documents and basics of government.

Students need to understand that it was a messy process, but out of that process came a document that is the basis of freedom across the world. I love to invite legislators into my classroom while teaching government, to allow students to ask questions and gain first-hand knowledge of how the government created 230 years ago works for them today.”
Collins attended Northeastern State University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s of science in education degree in 2008. Collins has an additional certification in secondary social studies.
